This new airport aims to address the current limitations faced by Huelva in terms of tourism accessibility. Currently, the region is served primarily by Seville and Faro airports, which are over an hour’s drive away. The new airport is expected to bring this travel time down to about 15 minutes for popular tourist destinations like El Rompido, Nuevo Portil, Isla Canela, Costa Esuri and Ayamonte .

The Huelva Cristobal Colon Airport will feature a 2,400-meter runway capable of handling intercontinental flights, replacing the existing smaller runway. This is part of a broader effort to boost tourism and make Huelva a more competitive destination compared to other Andalusian provinces and the Algarve in Portugal.

The construction timeline and final completion date have not been specified, but the approval and investment highlight a committed effort to enhancing the region’s infrastructure and tourism appeal.
